Effect of accelerated electrons on magnetic properties of Rudniany ore

Description

The results are presented of magnetic sorting of siderite and ferrobarite ores at a magnetic field intensity of 1,950 and 4,050 Oe, in variation with the accelerated electron dose within 4x103 and 1x106 J.kg-1. A dose response relationship could not be plotted from the results but in comparison with the results of sorting without radiation the present results are better. The irradiation was performed using an electron accelerator with a throughput of 30 to 100 tons of ore per hour. The results are also presented of magnetic sorting of siderite ore following fast electron irradiation for over 1.5 mins at a variable temperature of 200 to 700 degC. Some samples were treated under an H2 reduction atmosphere. Varying the experimental conditions gave a magnetic fraction with an iron content of 49.43% and a yield of 82.40% as against a yield of 50.09% when fast electrons were not used. (J.B.)
