Description
Diffusion coefficients of Xe-133 in simulated burnup fuel (simfuel) pellets were measured by post irradiation annealing tests. Specimens are pellet cubes, the weight of each cube (2x2x2 mm3) was about 100mg. Three pellet cubes were irradiated to a burnup of 0.1 MWd/t-U at each experiment. Post irradiation annealing tests were performed after irradiation at temperatures between 1400 and 1500 .deg. C continuously. Diffusion coefficients were obtained by measuring the gamma activity of Xe -133 accumulated in the liquid nitrogen trap. Measured diffusion coefficients were compared with those of uranium dioxide (UO2), mixed thorium-uranium dioxide [(Th,U)O2]. Diffusion coefficients of simfuels are similar to those in the polycrystalline UO2 at the experimental temperatures with lower activation energy
