Positron emission tomography (PET) is a unique, noninvasive, quantitative approach for the assessment of cardiac function. PET imaging of the heart includes PET imaging of myocardial perfusion, myocardial metabolism, and cardiac receptor. This review will summarize the basic principle for cardiac PET, PET radiopharmaceuticals for the heart, and application of PET in coronary artery reserve, coronary heart disease, myocardial viability, and cardiomyopathy
