Severe Accident Management Simplified
- 1. Westinghouse Electric Corp., Nuclear Technology Division, P.O. Box 355, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15230 (United States)
Description
After having recalled in which context the Severe Accident Management Guidance (SAMG) was developed by the Westinghouse Owners Group, the authors present its reference decision-making process which includes the following levels: diagnose plant conditions, prioritize response, assess equipment availability, identify and assess negative impacts, determine whether to implement available equipment, determine whether implemented actions are effective, identify long term concerns for implemented strategies. They indicate the goals that would form the foundation of this guidance (a set of three primary goals and two secondary goals concerning the release of radioactivity, the containment of fission products, and the return to stable conditions). Then, they indicate how the number of fundamental status parameters has been reduced to six with the corresponding actions
