Assessment of 14C in biota around Kakrapar environment and evaluation of ingestion dose to public

  • 1. Health Physics Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Assessment of 14C in biota around Kakrapar environment and evaluation of ingestion dose to public was carried out by analyzing dietary items such as cereals, pulses, vegetables and fruits. Samples were processed and analysed in Sample Oxidiser and counted in Tricarb 3170 TR/SL LSS. The mean 14C activity in cereals, pulses vegetables and fruits (Bq kg-1 dry or fresh wt.) found was 94, 105, 34 and 53 respectively. The ingestion dose (μSv yr-1) due to 14C for cereals, pulses, vegetables and fruits was observed to be 9.5, 2.4, 1.9 and 1.0 respectively. These values are very much comparable with other environment. (author)
