Description

FARAO - the Siemens concept for an improved WWER-440 fuel assembly. Fuel assemblies of the new FARAO type (Fuel Assembly Redesigned for Advanced Operation) for WWER-440 type reactors are fully compatible with current WWER-440 fuel elements, but, compared with the latter, have the potential for an improved fuel exploitation (through a higher discharge burnup) and are distinguished by their easily serviceable structure. While the Soviet made fuel elements used so far permit discharge burnups of about 32 MWd/kg U, fuel elements of the FARAO concept are designed for burnups of over 50 MWd/kg U. (orig.)

Brennelemente des neuen Typs FARAO (Fuel Assembly Redesigned for Advanced Operation) fuer WWER-440-Reaktoren sind voll kompatibel zu den bisherigen WWER-440-Brennelementen, haben im Vergleich zu diesen jedoch das Potential fuer eine bessere Brennstoffnutzung (durch hoeheren Entladeabbrand) und zeichnen sich durch einen servicefreundlichen Aufbau aus. Waehrend die derzeit verwendeten Brennelemente sowjetischer Bauart Entladeabbraende von etwa 32 MWd/kg U zulassen, sind Brennelemente nach dem FARAO-Konzept auf Abbraende von ueber 50 MWd/kg U ausgelegt.
