Description
The resonant excitation of the 229Th nucleus to the low-lying isomeric level by optical photons is considered in the third order of the QED perturbation theory. Analysis is performed for various relationships between the energy of photons and the energies of nuclear and atomic transitions. The cross sections and yields of isomeric nuclei are calculated for laser-irradiated targets
