Determination of the neutron scattering length of 208 Pb and Bi by the perfect crystal neutron interferometer at the Berlin neutron scattering centre

Description
The aim of the research is to make a more precise measurements of the neutron coherent scattering lengths for Bi and 208 Pb. The measurements are performed with neutron interferometers installed at the BER-11 reactor of the Berlin Neutron Scattering Center using the rotating sample overlapping both coherent beams of the interferometer. The formulae for determination of the intensity distribution and effective thickness of the sample are given. The values obtained are the following: 9.494(29) fm and 8.537(18) fm for 208 Pb and Bi, respectively. 5 refs., 2 tabs
