The role of the nuclear technology in developing countries
Description
Science and technology play key roles to help developing countries to reach a sustainable development, among these technologies, nuclear technology offers unique solutions to specific problems such as diagnosing and treating diseases, breeding better crops, insect sterilizing, assessing new sources fresh water, monitoring pollution etc. An overview of relevant co-operation activities of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) with several countries, dealing with the application of nuclear technology in areas like medicine (radiotherapy, radiopharmaceuticals), agriculture (fertilization, breeding, pest control, insect-resistant crops), food (desinfection, sterilization), human health (infections diseases, dosimetry, nutrition studies), water (desalination, ocean pollution monitoring), environmental protection and land mines detection is provided. 45 refs., 25 figs., 4 tabs.
