Implementation of a radio protection program in high complexity center

  • 1. RED AUNA- Oncocenter, Lima (Peru)

Description

In Peru the AUNA Network was established, which is a group of medical centers dedicated to health, wit a high standard in diagnostic and treatment equipment that emits ionizing radiation in total 2 equipment between mammographers, x-rays, cineangiographers, tomographs, linear accelerators high rate, SPECT-CT, densitometers, dental X-ray. As a result of the regulations where it indicates that Every center of high complexity category 4 must have a Radiological Protection Office (OPR), the areas and processes began to be implemented across the entire NETWORK. Th Implementation occurs in two phases, 1. It began with the inventory of the equipment that emit ionizing radiation, its energies, and description of the equipment. Then to the recognition and control o quality of protective clothing such as apron, glasses, thyroid protector, etc. We proceeded t collect information on personal dosimeter readings and optimize their use only b Occupationally exposed personnel (POE). In addition to implementing your monthly digital report to each User name. Informative talks on basic knowledge in radiological protection (RP) were started at the staff in general. Phase 2: We proceeded to give specific talks by group of professionals, as well a introduce the culture of dose optimization and report of doses per patient. Image accounting digital duplicates, and activate procedural flows in various scenarios that could be encountered in an emergency, accident or incident, a performance curve was performed per equipment before introduce the program and then its control every 6 months. Procedures were established and optimize through the use of guidelines and protocols. As well as the signage of the areas and the mos continual drills in cases of accidents and incidents in brachytherapy services an nuclear medicine. A favorable change was observed in reference to the optimization of inputs (7%) an team performance as well as communication between professionals. Currently use usage indicators and Gantt chart for an annual schedule
