Neutronic study of heavy nucleus produced in nuclear reactor fuel cycle

Description

Importance of minor actinides (U, Np, Pu, Am and Cm isotopes) PWR and fast neutron reactors and their associated fuel cycle is examined in this thesis. The amount of actinides formed in the various types of fuels or reactors are given. The different ways of formation and their importance are described. Modifications of the core reactivity due to actinides are shown. After a review of the fuel cycle (enrichment, fabrication, reprocessing, transport) actinide evolution outside the core is described and main problems concerning radioactivity in the different steps of the cycle or long term storage are underlined.

Abstract (French)

Cette these est consacree a l'importance des actinides ''mineurs'' (U, Np, Pu, Am, Cm) dans les PWR et les reacteurs a neutrons rapides et dans les cycles de combustible associes. On donne les quantites d'actinides qui se forment dans les divers types de combustible ou de reacteurs utilises. On decrit les voies de formation et leurs importances respectives. On montre les modifications que la presence de ces actinides peut apporter au bilan en reactivite du coeur. Apres une description de l'ensemble du cycle du combustible (enrichissement, fabrication, retraitement, transport), on decrit l'evolution des actinides hors du coeur en degageant les principaux problemes qu'ils posent, que ce soit des problemes d'activites radioactives lors des differentes phases du cycle, ou des problemes de stockage a long terme.
