Counter-course. Nuclear waste in the Konrad shaft and municipal policy missteps 1986-2016

In this book, the author describes her experiences in the resistance against the Schacht Konrad nuclear waste repository in Salzgitter. Due to the scientific ignorance of the proponents, the political machinations and the structural power, Schacht Konrad was approved in the end as applied for. Nevertheless, the resistance paid off: there was a tendency for politicians to turn away from the concept of non-retrievability of radioactive waste. At the centre of the factual representations is the epistemologically highly problematic long-term safety guarantee against the release of radioactive pollutants to the biosphere. The non-scientific interventions of politics in the planning approval procedure for the Konrad mine and the farce of public participation are just as much a topic as the significance of Konrad in the energy consensus talks on the nuclear phase-out - in which the mine was made a pawn. The book is also an examination of the unfulfilled offers of those politically responsible to civil society resistance and of the tendencies of political jurisdiction.
