First measurement of g-factors in a SD nucleus
Description
Four, possibly five, superdeformed bands are known in 193Hg. Previous experiments showed that two of them are in coincidence with each other. This Eurogam experiment was designed to observe the cross band linking transitions. The reaction used was 48Ca + 150Nd at 213 MeV. Gamma-rays were measured using 44 detectors of the Eurogam array. In brief, the dipole linking transitions were observed; careful measurements reveal these to be M1 transitions. Measurements of the B(M1)/B(E2) branching ratio and the E2 lifetime (DSAM) allowed the authors to calculate the g-factor in these superdeformed bands
