Temporary store for high level radioactive waste

A redundant cooling system is provided to use the heat of decay. Apart from the cooling air, a further cooling medium is for cooling, which circulates in the circuit between the coolant pipes, which pass through the store and a heat sink situated outside the store. In order to guarantee even heat removal during emergency cooling of the store, apart from the use of the heat generated during operation, and with safe containment of the waste a storage container is placed in the store, which has suitable storage shafts for filling with the waste. The storage shafts are surrounded by the coolant pipes of the cooling medium. In addition, the storage container is surrounded by a cooling jacket to guide the cooling air, whose cooling air ducts are open to the outer wall surface of the storage container.
