The UK assessment of disposal of intermediate level waste in clay for the CEC Pacoma project

An assessment of the radiological impact of disposal of intermediate level waste in a clay formation in the UK has been performed for the CEC PACOMA project. The work was performed by a consortium of four UK contractors and followed the methodology developed for the CEC PAGIS project with two additions: the demonstration of a methodology for selecting parameter distributions and the comparison of one-dimensional and two-dimensional geosphere models. The results obtained were best estimates of doses to individuals and to populations, peak individual risks, the uncertainty associated with these estimates and the sensitivity of the doses to variations in the parameter values. 9 refs., 2 figs
