Description

The activity of Pisa University BNCT calculation group is at present focused on two main research areas concerning the treatment planning and the feasibility study on irradiation facilities based on multiple, accelerator driven, neutron sources. A new Treatment Planning System (TPS), named BDTPS (Boron Distribution Treatment Planning System), has been developed. Main features of BDTPS are briefly presented and its future developments shown. Besides, further investigation on Beam Shaping Assembly (BSA) design have been performed on two different facility concepts, to provide a suitable neutron beam for BNCT application. The first is based on more conventional proton accelerators coupled with Li targets; the second exploits the alternative and still less investigated nuclear fusion reactions 2H(d, n)3He and 3H(d, n)4He. The research results here are briefly reported. (author)
