EDTA effect (Rowland effect) on electrochemical behaviour of transition metals and electrocatalysis of hydrogen separation reaction. Rowland effect on noble metals
Description
'Rowland effect' is studied by the method of cyclic voltammetry on Pt, Pd, Ru, Rh, Ir, Au and Re electrodes. Rowland effect is caused by the treatment of surfaces in the presence of EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid). In principle, this treatment resides in the destruction and removal of oxides from the surfaces of metal substrates in the presence of EDTA and in a subsequent increase of the area of working surface and its depassivation. Rowland effect is of great importance for electrocatalysis reactions of hydrogen release and oxygen reduction. 50 refs., 8 figs
