Layered double hydroxide sorbents for the removal of SOx from flue gas resulting from coal combustion

Description

This patent describes a process for removing SOx components from air in a flue gas stream containing oxygen, sulfur dioxide and sulfur trioxide from the combustion of coal within a coal fired boiler. It comprises combusting the coal in the boiler to provide the flue gas stream and contacting the the flue gas stream with a heated sorbent composition at a temperature between about 400 degrees and 1000 degrees C
