''Depleted'' fission 99Mo-sup(99m)Tc generators

  • 1. PUSPATI, Selangor (Malaysia)

Description

The two main hospitals with nuclear medicine units in the country currently use imported sup(99m)Tc - 99Mo generators for their diagnostic works. After that, ''depleted'' generators were sent to PUSPATI as wastes for treatment. The high concentration of eluates from the ''depleted'' generators were now considered to be used for the developmental works on sup(99m)Tc-labelled compounds. The presence of impurities and the high concentration of sup(99m)Tc in the eluates may cause problems in the labelling. In this study, the performance and quality control of ''depleted'' generators were investigated. The study suggested that the ''depleted'' generators could be used for experimental purposes provided that if the presence of 99Tc carrier in the pertechnetate is relatively low in concentration.
