Description
Musclin impairs insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in the differentiation of C2C12 myocytes. In these cells, musclin reduce 3H-G uptake, but the expression level of GLuT4 is not altered. Studies of the myocytes revealed that the expression level of NF-κB and IL-6 is increased, compared with that of myocytes preincubated in a musclin-free medium. The results indicate that musclin-induced insulin resistance can be studied in rat skeletal muscle in vitro. They suggest that musclin-induced impairment of insulin action in these muscles is related to NF-κB pathway. (authors)
