Spectroscopic and chromatographic investigation of binding media of art objects
Description
In this work an investigation has been made about the two groups of binding media, vegetable oils and resins. For this purpose spectroscopic and chromatographic methods were employed in order to obtain extensive results. For the analysis by FTIR spectroscopy the measurements were performed by a FTIR-microscope using a diamond anvil cell in order to minimize the sample amount. Fresh and light accelerated oils were investigated and changes are described. Furthermore resins, which contain di- and triterpenoid compounds, were investigated by FTIR spectroscopy. The examination of drying oils, especially tung oil, was performed by GC and GC/MS analysis, additionally to FTIR analysis. (author)
