Solid solutions in the system Y2O3-Pr2O3 and its morphotropy
- 1. AN SSSR, Leningrad. Inst. Khimii Silikatov
Description
The subsolidus part of the phase diagram for Y2O3-Pr2O3 was studied at 1250-18000. Oxide mixtures in various proportions were pressed into tablets and roasted at 17500 in a vacuum for 3 hr then they were heated at 1250, 1500, and 18000 in a vacuum for several hr and quenched. The phases were studied by x-ray analysis and the structures determined. At low Pr2O3 concentration, there is a wide region of solid solutions based on Y2O3 having a body centered cubic structure. With increasing Pr2O3 concentration, there is a wide field of solid solutions with a monoclinic lattice which is separated from the previous region by a rather wide two-phase region. For high Pr2O3 concentrations, there is a narrow region of solid solutions of hexagonal structure. The results confirm the crystallochemical similarity of Y2O3 and the rare earth oxides
