Protection of workers against the hazards of ionizing radiation

French regulations as at 15 May 1976 on the protection of workers against the hazards of ionizing radiations are reproduced in this publication of the Official Gazette of the French Republic. The first Decree lays down the general principles for protection against ionizing radiations and applies to any activity involving exposure to radiation, in particular, production, treatment, handling storage, transport and disposal of radioactive substances. The other Orders and Decrees are more specific and cover inter alia: radiation -emitting devices, approval of control methods, conditions of use for dosimeters, periodic controls for sealed sources, installations and protection devices, conditions of approval for bodies responsible for controlling the protection of workers, medical surveillance of the latter, and finally, the provisions to be complied with for the protection of workers in large nuclear installations. These Orders and Decrees also prescribe the maximum permissible doses, levels and exposures for workers and the population and are supplemented by technical annexes. (N.E.A.)
