Quantitative study by Moessbauer effect of radiolysis of dihydrate iron oxide FeC2O4 . 2 H2O

Description
The radiolysis of homologous iron salt FeC2O4 x 2 H2O was studied using Moessbauer spectroscopy. Moessbauer spectra were recorded at room temperature and fitted to the Lorentzian curves by the least square method. The Moessbauer spectra are presented for a single sample of non-irradiated FeC2O4 x 2 H2O and for eight irradiation doses applied. The radiolysis of solid dihydrate iron oxalate is characterized by oxidation changing of Fe2+ into Fe3+ according to first order kinetics. The quantitative relation between dose and Fe3+ production is maintained up to large doses of approximately 50,000 megarads corresponding to the transformation of almost 80 % of the initial Fe2+ into Fe3+.
