This article gives details of a new study entitled 'A UK guide to intake fish screening regulations, policy and best practice'. The impact on migratory fish populations of low-head run-of-the-river sites, the regulation of fish screening in the UK, a survey of developers and operators of small hydroelectric projects for their views on fish protection, and concerns of regulators are discussed.
