Description
This paper presents numerical studies and experimental work of liquid metal magnetohydrodynamic flows performed in the framework of the European fusion reactor blanket technology programme. Numerical studies have enabled to obtain solutions of fully developed isothermal liquid metal flows in a magnetic field transverse to the direction of the flow. Solutions of annular and counter-current concentric flows are presented. Results of tests performed in the loop MALICE, which is equipped with a large electromagnet, are also reported. The tests have been performed in annular geometries with pure lithium up to 5000C
