Properties of structures resulted from hardening of Fe-18% Cr-(0.9-1.3)% N-alloys with and without nickel additions

Description

An attempt is made to estimate mechanical and corrosion-resisting properties of high chromium nitrogen containing steels (Kh17A9, Kh18A11, Kh18A13, 12Kh17) after various time-temperature conditions of heating before quenching. A study is also made into the influence of nickel alloying on structure and properties (Kh17N2A9, 08Kh18N10). It is concluded that nickel can be completely excluded from corrosion resistant steels if nitrogen concentration is in the range of 1.1-1.3%. The best combination of strength, plasticity and corrosion resistance in Fe-18%Cr-N steels can be attained at nitrogen contents of 1.1-1.3% after water quenching from 1200 deg C (1 h)
