Description
Systematic sulfur and carbon isotopic analyses have been carried out at the Elura Zn-Pb deposit, Cobar. The samples for sulfur isotopic analyses were taken from various mineralised zones of the main ore body, a number of smaller ore bodies nearby, and also from disseminated and framboidal pyrite within the country rocks. Carbonate samples from various alteration zones and the metasedimentary host rocks were used for the isotope analyses of carbon and oxygen. Results of the analyses were used to determine the origin and depositional conditions of sulfide mineralisation at the deposit. The data support an ore-forming model involving a mixture of sulfur and carbon derived from a deep-seated crustal reservoir and the Early Devonian metasedimentary sequence
