CT in homonymous hemianopia

CT is useful for demonstrating the lesion of an optic pathway. Because a slice of the brain rather parallel to the optic pathway can be obtained, the relationship between the optic pathway and the extent of the lesion can also be demonstrated. We studied 53 cases of homonymous hemianopia by CT. in 44 of the 53 cases, i.e., in 85% of them, positive CT findings were obtained. The causative lesions were 39 C. V. D., 5 brain tumors, and 9 others. When the lesion was in the occipital, lobe, the correlation between size of the lesion and the type of visual defect was obtained. When the lesion was small, the visual-field defect was quadrantanopia or homonymous hemianopia with macular sparing. When the lesion was large, the visual-field defect was complete homonymous hemianopia. (author)
