Description
Full text: Most qualitative studies using X-rays require a monochromatic source. Design principles for a broad-range channel cut monochromating crystal will be elaborated upon, including choice of channel width, beam offset, energy range, resolving power and the choice of crystal plane, as each of these parameters have a significant effect on the quality of the monochromation. Crystal specifications will be presented for a designed and fabricated monochromator, including the limiting resolution due to the combined effects of the intrinsic rocking curve, beam collimation and the goniometer and detector resolutions in use at The University of Melbourne
