Description

Since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the USA and the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in Japan, the international community has required greater Safety and Security Interface (SSI) as well as emphasized the establishment of a mutual cooperation framework. In the Republic of Korea (ROK), Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) has two technical support organizations which are the Korea Institute of Nuclear Non-proliferation and Control (KINAC) for nuclear security & safeguards and the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS) for nuclear safety as independent laws, respectively. It is then imperative that both sides should make an effort for a close cooperation to improve SSI. This study figured out and described main improvement programs in SSI in terms of three aspects (institutional, regulatory, and operational) through the comprehensive review for our regimes and systems. Based on these programs, the government and relevant support organizations are implementing a number of efforts to make an infrastructure for according to importance in each of these improvements.
