Safety considerations on liquid metal breeding blankets for fusion reactors

Description
This article first outlines the tasks and functions of the blanket of a Tokamak fusion reactor. The main part deals with the safety-related basic principles and the properties of the materials available for liquid metal blankets. Various blanket concepts chosen as examples are then evaluated regarding their potential danger. This is closely based on a comparative study recently carried out for ITER by several European partners, including KfK. Finally, there is a short forecast of the prospects. (orig./HP)

In diesem Beitrag werden zunaechst die Aufgaben und die Funktion des Blankets eines Tokamak-Fusionsreaktors umrissen. Der Hauptteil behandelt die sicherheitstechnischen Grundlagen und Eigenschaften der fuer Fluessigmetall-Blankets zur Wahl stehenden Werkstoffe. Beispielhaft werden dann verschiedene Blanketkonzepte bezueglich ihres Gefahrenpotentials bewertet. Dies erfolgt in enger Anlehnung an eine kuerzlich fuer ITER durchgefuehrte Vergleichsstudie mehrerer europaeischer Partner, darunter auch KfK. Am Schluss steht ein kurzer Ausblick.
