Catalytic effect of PuO2 in oxidation of graphite in air
Creators

Description
Oxidation of graphite in air was studied in presence of different concentrations of PuO2 by the methods of thermal analysis. Graphite oxidation temperatures were found to be lowered by more than 100degC in presence of PuO2 showing significant catalysis of graphite oxidation by PuO2. The catalytic effect is unlikely to be due to cyclic conversion of oxide from Pu(IV) to Pu(III) oxidation state. (author). 5 refs
