Nuclear reactor
Description
Nuclear reactor comprising a neutron source that reduces or eliminates costs and the time spent on replacement but nevertheless gives adequate neutron emissions for the start up and surveillance functions at the same time. A control element includes a plurality of rods, having high neutron absorption capacity, enclosed in a sealed cladding, the characteristic being that one of these rods is also comprising a neutron emitting source encapsulated in the control element. The source is a combination of plutonium 238 and beryllium encapsulated in an alloy (preferably cadmium based) which is practically black to thermal neutrons but not to the neutrons of other energy ranges

Reacteur nucleaire comportant une source de neutrons qui reduise ou elimine les couts et le temps associes au remplacement, mais toutefois donne des emissions adequates de neutrons pour les fonctions a la fois de demarrage et de surveillance. Un element de commande comprend une pluralite de barres, a haute capacite d'absorption des neutrons, emboitees dans un gainage ferme de facon etanche, caracterise en ce qu'une de ces barres comporte aussi une source emettant des neutrons, encapsulee dans l'element de commande. La source est constituee d'une combinaison de plutonium 238 et de beryllium encapsule dans un alliage (a base de cadmium de preference) qui est pratiquement noir aux neutrons thermiques, mais pas aux neutrons des autres gammes d'energieAdditional details
