The effect of strontium on praseodymium based perovskites for SOFC cathodes

Pr1-xSrxMO3-δ (PSMO) (0≤x≤0.6) (M = Fe, Co) cathode materials were synthesized by using soI-geI method. All the powders were formed in 600-7000 deg C temperature range. The materials were characterized by X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The crystal structure of Pr1-xSrxFeO3 (PSFO) is orthorhombic and Pr1-xSrxCoO3 (PSOO) is cubic. The lattice parameters were determined by X-ray powder diffraction. Lattice parameters and volume of the unit cell decrease for PSFO and increase for PSCO with increasing strontium content. Orthorhombic deformation decreases with increasing Sr for PSFO. Density of the samples is more than 90% of theoretical value. TEM images show that the particle size of PSMO is in the range 25-35 nm and 55-60 nm for as-synthesized and calcined powders respectively. (author)
