Surface damage studies of Ni-1%Cu irradiated by 30 MeV helium ions using Variable Energy Cyclotron

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Chemistry Div.

Description

Studies on surface damage by 30 MeV helium ion irradiation on Ni-1% Cu have been carried out using Variable Energy Cyclotron. Two types of samples, one with thickness less than energy range of 30 MeV helium ions and other with thickness greater than range were used. It was observed that in thinner samples blisters were found on both irradiated and unirradiated surface. In case of thicker samples, blisters were observed only on irradiated surface. This behaviour supports the gas pressure model for blister formation. (author). 16 refs., 4 figs
