Thermonuclear device blanket

Description

Purpose: To increase the tritium breeding ratio and at the same time to facilitate heat removal. Constitution: To improve the cooling characteristics of the heater, the length of contact between the heater and the coolant must be increased. Moreover, in order to lower the highest temperature reached in a heater, it is necessary to reduce the thickness of such a heat source. With this in mind, this invention proposes the following type of blanket. In a blanket with neutron multiplicating layer and a front side tritium breeding layer, the front side tritium breeding layer is made in a corrugated shape or with many protruding areas. This means that the shape of the blanket container, coolant piping, and neutron multiplicating material must be changed to conform with the above mentioned shapes. However, the volume of the front side tritium breeding layer and the neutron multiplicating layer must be kept uniform so that the neutron multiplication factor adjacent to the altered shape is not affected.
