Loss of ferromagnetism in YNi3 after H2 absorption

  • 1. Philips Gloeilampenfabrieken N.V., Eindhoven (Netherlands). Natuurkundig Lab.

Description

The compound YNi3 (PuNi3-type, a = 4.973 A, c = 24.42 A) is ferromagnetic below Tsub(c) = 35 K. After hydrogen absorption it loses its ferromagnetic character and becomes Pauli paramagnetic. The composition of the ternary hydride is approximately YNi3H4. The lattice constants are a = 5.267 A, c = 26.57 A. (author)
