Description

Full text: Due to strong binding of K-shell electrons in an atom, the Compton scattered peak is shifted in energy and broadened from the free electron Compton scattered peak, and also results in the deviation of differential Compton cross section values from the well defined free electron Klein- Nishina formula values. In the present work Compton Scattering and absorption differential cross sections of 662 keV gamma rays Compton scattered from K-shell electrons of tin are determined at 20 deg, 25 deg, 30 deg, 50 deg and 110 deg scattering angles to account for this binding. Two NaI(Tl) scintillation spectrometers and a slow-fast coincidence set up having 30 nsec resolving time are used to record the events. Our experimental results are compared with the available experimental and theoretical data
