Turbulent transport of He II in active and passive phase separators using slit devices and porous media

  • 1. Lockheed Research and Development Div., Palo Alto, CA (USA)

Description

The turbulent flow modes of He II vapor-liquid phase separators were comparatively investigated for passive porous plug separators and active phase separators using slits of variable flow paths. The basic flow regimes in both devices were identical. An integrated Gorter-Mellink equation was employed to analyze active separator data in the literature. The dependence of the Gorter-Mellink parameter on slit width was assessed. The results agree with heat flow data for He II entropy transport at zero net mass flow in wide capillaries and slits
