Recommendations about criticality accident dosimetry

Description

The aims of criticality accident dosimetry and the characteristics peculiar to a critical burst being defined, the requirements to be fulfilled by a dosimetric system applied to this type of measurements are presented. The devices chosen by the C.E.A. Radiation Survey Divisions, simple and cheap, are described along with the main processes to be carried out in order to evaluate doses after an accident. The apparatus necessary for detector counting and the directions for use are presented in detail, allowing standardization of measurements. A set of linear formula enables to obtain, from these measurements, all required informations about neutron fluences and spectra, along with the suitable components of the dose at the irradiated people locations

Abstract (French)

Apres avoir defini les objectifs de la dosimetrie en cas d'accident de criticite et les caracteres propres a une excursion critique, on precise les conditions que doit remplir un systeme dosimetrique applicable a ce type de mesures. Les materiels adoptes par les Services de Radioprotection du Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique, simples et peu onereux, sont decrits ainsi que les principales operations a effectuer, en vue de l'evaluation des doses recues, apres un accident. Les moyens necessaires pour le comptage des detecteurs et leur procedure d'utilisation sont presentes de facon detaillee, permettant la standardisation des mesures. Un ensemble de formules lineaires permet d'obtenir a partir de ces mesures, toutes les informations souhaitables sur la fluence et le spectre de neutrons ainsi que les composantes de la dose au niveau des personnes irradiees
