Description
We study two possible dynamical symmetries in the extended Interacting Boson Model, where g (L = 4) bosons are allowed besides the usual s-d bosons of the IBM. The first of these symmetries SU(3) was proposed recently and in this paper we present a thorough discussion of its mathematical properties. The second symmetry SU(5) is new. We discuss the properties of both limits concerning generators, Casimir operators, energy spectra, reduction rules, wave functions and, to some extent, electromagnetic transitions. (author)
