Report on evaluation of research and development works; in FY 2001 (Evaluation after research activities). Evaluated work title 'development of uranium enrichment technology'

Description

The fast reactor and nuclear fuel cycle work assessment estimated this work on the basis of data and supplement produced by Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Institute (JNC) and discussion under the constant evaluation method. A gas scattering method, centrifuge separation and laser method are used as uranium enrichment technologies. The gas scattering plants have deteriorated and the laser method has been worked to the limit. We rated selecting and setting the centrifuge method to practical use high place in the development of atomic power in Japan. High performance technologies by new materials drum centrifuge made possible to transfer the second uranium enrichment technology by new type centrifuge. Japan original technology development line has carried out and this made Japan as a few nations holding the uranium enrichment technology. Japan has kept the state to buy enriched uranium at a reasonable price. So that, the object of this project has been attained. The total system of NFD and JNFL will transfer of this technology to private sector. (S.Y.)
