Town and country planning (NIREX). Special development order 1986

Description

A motion is presented requesting that the order allowing the Nuclear Industry Radioactive Waste Executive to examine four sites as potentially suitable for low-level radioactive waste disposal be annulled. The order, about sites at South Killingholme, Fulbeck, Elstow and Bradwell, had been approved in the House of Commons. If found suitable, a public inquiry would be held before any site was actually used. The debate, including arguments about individual sites, safety, cost, rate reductions, compensation, the experience of other countries and alternative places for disposal, is reported verbatim. The debate lasted just over an hour. The motion was withdrawn. (U.K.)
