Lanthanum and cerium thiogermanites
Description
The results of derivatography and X-ray phase analysis indicate that La2S and Ge2S3 interact with GeS, La2S3 and Ce2S3 interact with Ge and S, or La2S4 and Ce2S4 interact with Ge at 585 deg C to form thiogermanites with a composition of the La2GeS4 and Ce2GeS4 type. As a result of heating thiogermanites up to 660 deg C at 10-3 mm Hg, disproportionation takes place with the separation of metallic germanium, as weel as a sulfide and a thiogermanate of a rare-earth element
