Description

Highlights: • Effect of concentration of Cr3+ in LiF-NaF-KF molten salt on the corrosion of SiC was investigated. • Cr3+ in salt can increase the dissolution of Si from SiC into salt. • The weight of SiC can change from loss to gain with the increasing concentration of Cr3+ in salt. • Cr in salt bellow 800 ppm results in the formation of corrosion pits in SiC. • Cr in salt above 1200 ppm results in the deposition of Cr3C2 on the surface of SiC.
