Des deux procédés de vitrification mis au point : vitrification en pot ou vitrification continue, c'est ce dernier qui a été choisi pour être développé à échelle industrielle. Après avoir défini les caractéristiques essentielles de ce procédé, l'auteur décrit l'installation industrielle de vitrification qui doit entrer en service, à Marcoule, dans le courant de 1977.
