The solution of the multigroup neutron transport equation using spherical harmonics
Description
A solution of the multi-group neutron transport equation in up to three space dimensions is presented. The flux is expanded in a series of unnormalised spherical harmonics. Using the various recurrence formulae a linked set of first order differential equations is obtained for the moments psisup(g)sub(lm)(r), γsup(g)sub(lm)(r). Terms with odd l are eliminated resulting in a second order system which is solved by two methods. The first is a finite difference formulation using an iterative procedure, secondly, in XYZ and XY geometry a finite element solution is given. Results for a test problem using both methods are exhibited and compared. (orig./RW)

Es wird eine Loesung der Multigruppen-Neutronentransportgleichung in bis zu drei-raeumlichen Dimensionen vorgestellt. Der Fluss wird in eine Reihe nicht-normalisierter Kugelfunktionen entwickelt. Durch Verwendung verschiedener Rekursionsformeln erhaelt man ein gekoppeltes Differentialgleichungssystem 1. Ordnung fuer die Momente psisup(g)sub(lm)(r), γsup(g)sub(lm)(r). Die Terme mit ungeradem l werden zum Verschwinden gebracht, wodurch sich ein System 2. Ordnung ergibt, das mit Hilfe von zwei Methoden geloest wird. Die erste ist ein Iterationverfahren mit finiten Differenzen. Als zweites wird eine Finit-Element-Loesung in XYZ- und XY-Geometrie angegeben. Beide Methoden werden auf ein Testbeispiel angewandt; die Ergebnisse werden dargestellt und verglichen. (orig./RW)
