Development on Pipe Cutting Technique Preventing the Spread out of Radioactive Contaminants. 2

Description

The removal of the pipes internally contaminated with radioactivities is a major task in dismantling of the nuclear facilities, especially of the fuel cycle ones. We searched for a Pipe Cutting Technique Preventing the Spread out of Radioactive Contaminants and developed a set of cutting techniques as reported previously. The portable type cutting tools with pressing and shearing are capable for in situ sectioning of the pipes up to the size of 25A-Sch40. The follow-up tests have also showed their effective capability for the actual dismantling and maintenance of the nuclear facilities. In order to expand their in site applicability, a remote handling system for the cutting tools have been developed and tested. The system comes out of the improvement of the commodity equipment and has a capability to support the cutting tool and a segmented pipe in the height up to 3m. (author)
