Electromigration radionuclide generator: principle of action and experimental investigation of its possibilities

Description

The possibility to create electromigration radionuclide generator, in which multiple separation of daughter radionuclide from the mother one takes place due to the difference in ion migration rates in solution under the effect of electric field is proved experimentally. Two types of electromigration generator, in which daughter radionuclide after its separation is eluated either using hydrostatic pressure or electromigration, are described. Using as an example generator pair barium-140 - lanthanum-140, performances (yield, radiochemical purity, specific activity, etc.) of the electromigration generator (KNO3 solution with ionic strength 0.1 and EDTA content 10-3 mol/l) are studied, the decisive effect of the distance between radionuclide area maxima on the quality of the generator operation is revealed and prospects of their use for short-lived radionuclide generation are shown
